Merry, Minimal Christmas

I hate Christmas villages. Well, I do not hate them. I enjoy seeing them in the neighborhood park or at the Christmas venues around town. I just do not want them in my living room.

My mom used to have a Christmas village that consisted of three plastic tubs of houses, churches, ponds, people, trees, and even ice-skating rinks! I would wrestle with the boxes in the attic, watching my steps so I did not end up on the first floor (by the wrong route). We would step up the town and the townspeople, some shopping, some lighting a Christmas tree, some caroling. What a little piece of Christmas to have in your house to enjoy.

Well, it is not something I would like in my living room. My Christmas village would either, unfortunately, be destroyed or end up with a thick layer of dust from my less then consistent cleaning.

This doesn’t mean I want to be a Grinch during this lovely time of year. I want to feel the warm Christmas joy wrap around me when I walk into my house; I just don’t want to trip on it and find it in my one-year old daughter’s mouth.

So here are my tips for creating a minimal, merry Christmas your house and you will love ascetically and functionally.

Try Adding Small, Modern Trees

Instead of using those small trees for a Christmas village, use them sporadically on your mantel for a clean, holiday look. You can create a fun, funky mantel or a more traditional look depending on your choice of tree.

Charm Up the House with Modern Wreaths

Wreaths can be used for the front doors, yes. But wreaths can also be used in a modern, minimal way.  Hang your wreaths on windows, in front of pictures, or hung on a wall for a showcase.

Wreaths are a simple, clean way to show your holiday spirit .

Sprinkle in White Fairy Lights

Nothing creates that warm, enchanted feeling that the holiday brings than the lights hung outside the neighborhood houses. Driving or walking down the street while it glistens from the twinkling multicolored lights.

You can bring that same feeling inside by using fairy lights. On bookshelves, mantels, mirrors, or buffet tables. The more, the merrier!
